“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”
― Ernest Hemingway
ABOUT BLEEDING INK
Bleeding Ink Publishing is a publisher of high quality speculative fiction for teens and adults. We work with established and emerging authors to bring you unique voices and captivating stories. With over two decades of experience in the publishing industry, our team knows the ins and outs of the business. We take a boutique approach to publishing, using both traditional and exciting new technologies to offer quality print, digital, and audio books. Our mission, quite simply, is to publish the best in brand new genre fiction. Vampires, robots, time-travel romance, we love it all and we can’t wait to introduce you to your next must-read novel.
There’s nothing in the world better than a good friend, a good cup of tea, and a good book. After working in the publishing industry for several years, first as authors, then as editors, acquisitions readers, and finally creative directors, we branched off with one goal in mind–to step across the boundaries of the current publishing world and use the best of both traditional and indie publishing models to create something new and exciting. Bleeding Ink was formed with authors and readers in mind. We want to provide the best and most supportive home for new and emerging literary voices while providing readers with fresh voices and stand-out genre fiction novels. A boutique style publishing approach allows us to offer both traditional print runs with on-shelf titles as well as to take advantage of the hottest digital trends while pursuing projects that we are passionate about. The only thing we want in black and white is our pages.
Bleeding Ink’s titles are available in print at major online retailers around the world. On the digital end, our e-books are available across all current marketplaces including Amazon, B&N, and iBooks (to name just a few). We acquire worldwide English language rights, meaning your English language e-book will be available worldwide, but you retain all your foreign translation and subsidiary rights. We may request audiobook rights for certain titles, and those are negotiated separately.
All our titles are published in simultaneous print and digital platforms.
We know that marketing isn’t a one size fits all endeavor, what works for an urban fantasy novel won’t be what works for an epic space opera. Our marketing team prides itself on thinking outside of the box and leveraging new and emerging promotional avenues. Every book we publish receives a unique, custom-tailored marketing plan that we revisit regularly to ensure continued sales. We work as a team with every author to maximize visibility and promotional opportunities for each title.
At Bleeding Ink Publishing, we believe authors deserve to be treated fairly and with respect—that includes ensuring they are paid for their work. As such, we provide highly competitive royalty rates and author-friendly terms in all our contracts.
We operate in a traditional publishing system, meaning we incur all costs of producing your book. We never charge authors fees or ask them to share those expenses.
Bleeding Ink pays advances on every title we accept. Most offers fall within the ‘nice deal’ range and are offered in a single payment which is made upon the signing of contracts. We don’t split up advances or parce them out through the process.
Advances are just that, advances made against expected returns, and we offer them because we only accept books we are not only passionate about, but that we are confident we can sell.
We at Bleeding Ink know that succeeding as a published author can be difficult, and we have an ‘it takes a village’ attitude toward making our titles successful, so we employ a staff of the best editors, cover artists, and formatters in the business to make your book shine, in addition to offering author coaching and guidance as you begin (or elevate) your career. We work hard to make sure each title is handled by people who know the genre, who understand the industry, and who can be the loudest advocates and most dedicated partners in the publishing process. In this process, building a strong and communicative team is crucial to a book’s success, so we strive to do just that.
